FLOOR PEDESTAL MOUNTS
A FLOOR PEDESTAL MOUNT IS A TYPE OF MOUNT DISPLAYED ON A FREESTANDING BASE, CREATING A STRIKING THREE-DIMENSIONAL PRESENTATION
A floor pedestal mount in taxidermy displays the animal’s head, neck, shoulders, and sometimes part of the upper body on a decorative base that stands directly on the floor. Unlike a traditional wall-mounted trophy, it can be viewed from several angles, giving the mount greater depth and a more lifelike appearance.
The pedestal can be customised with rocks, grass, branches, or other natural elements to recreate the animal’s habitat and complement the surrounding space.
You’ll typically see floor pedestal mounts featuring:
- A turned or slightly angled pose for added character
- Decorative habitat scenes built into the base
- Large game animals displayed as a free-standing centrepiece
FLOOR PEDESTAL MOUNTS on BASE EXPLAINED:
A pedestal mount is a type of mount that is displayed on a wooden base. A steel rod with side supports is cast within the manikin, which in turn swivels on a covered or hidden steel pipe built into the wooden base. The back of the mount is closed with excess skin from the cape, or, if the cape has been skinned too short, it can be covered with leather or back felt. All medium and large wooden bases have castor wheels built into the floor base, making the complete mount very manoeuvrable. This is particularly useful when rearranging a safari room or cleaning floors. We have seven standard pedestal mount forms available, all differing in head direction. Head direction is determined by the direction the animal is looking. Do not confuse this with the direction you are facing when standing in front of the animal.

2. ½ Left: About a 45° angle to the left of the centerline of the animal.
3. ¼ Left: About a 22.5° angle to the left of the centerline of the animal,
4. Straight: The animal is looking straight ahead along centerline of animal,
5. ¼ Right: About a 22.5° angle to the right of the centerline of the animal,
6. ½ Right: About a 45° angle to the right of the centerline of the animal,
